Hello and a warm welcome to Ford Curran Tuition.
I am a passionate, professional and highly experienced private tutor. I teach children from primary up to GCSE level in maths and English. I also provide dedicated examination preparation, with previous pupils gaining entrance and scholarships to leading independent and grammar schools in London and the Southeast. I am a qualified teacher with teaching experience across the primary age range.
I founded Ford Curran Tuition with the core aim of delivering a high-quality educational experience that is tailored specifically to the student’s individual needs. I provide individualised programmes of learning that are founded upon a clear understanding of how children learn, techniques that can enable children to understand what they are doing (rather than completing tasks by rote), and which are delivered by me - an expert, engaging and friendly tutor. This has resulted in a proven track record of academic success for my students.
Building confidence, making learning fun and inspiring intellectual curiosity is essential to long-term academic progress. My teaching techniques place great emphasis on encouraging students to develop a positive, can-do (or 'growth') mindset.

APPROACH
Tuition from a qualified teacher
Anyone can call themselves a tutor. In contrast, obtaining a teaching qualification comes only after numerous observations of teaching practice, rigorous assessment against all teacher standards (from setting high expectations, to assessing children accurately, to ensuring children are engaged), and after the applicant having demonstrated an understanding of how children learn best.

I obtain great results from my students (please see results and testimonials page) because of my focus upon the individual learner and my meticulous attention to detail in assessment and planning. This ensures that children's learning is structured in a logical progression, ensuring the best progress. I use the language your child will be familiar with from their own teachers, as well as a variety of strategies and resources used in schools.

Wide-ranging tutoring experience
Ford Curran Tuition caters for a range of ages and abilities, from primary up to GCSE.

Past pupils have gained offers and scholarships from Sevenoaks School, Putney High, Tonbridge School, Walthamstow Hall, Dartford Boys Grammar, Judd, Skinners, Tonbridge Grammar, Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School and Mayfield Grammar.
My understanding of how children will need to think and approach problems at GCSE level informs my approach at 11+ and 13+ level. Your child will be taught skills and techniques that set them up for long-term academic success.

Inspiring confidence and developing positive mindsets
No child is born able to write eloquently or solve complex maths equations – these capabilities are learned.
The key role of the tutor is to help students to recognise that academic progress is achieved through good concentration and practice. Encouraging children to adopt this mindset can be one of the most rewarding aspects of tuition, for parent, student and tutor alike.
Alongside academic performance, I believe the development of this positive and committed attitude to schooling is a crucial element in securing academic success. This approach ensures that Ford Curran Tuition has a long-term impact on your child’s capacity for learning.
High quality, personalised tuition

Many tutors and tuition companies adopt ‘off the shelf’ approaches, hoping your child will fit the most readily available resources.

In contrast, Ford Curran Tuition will work with you to develop an individualised educational programme that complements your child’s learning style and academic goals. Every child is different and my approach reflects this.

An initial assessment, reviews of recent school reports and conversations with parents allow me to develop a personalised learning programme for your child from the very beginning.
Moreover, I believe that it is critical that your child’s tuition is constantly reviewed and adapted accordingly. This flexible approach ensures that every session is engaging and continues to facilitate academic progress.

TUITION SERVICES
1:1 Tuition
1:1 tuition with Ford Curran Tuition provides the individualised attention that children often do not receive at school. Every 1:1 session is carefully planned to target your child’s strengths and weaknesses. This intensive style of learning is delivered by a friendly, engaging and reliable tutor.
1:1 tuition over the long-term enables me to create a personalised learning programme that is constantly reviewed and adapted according to your child’s progress.

Lessons are provided online, at your home or at my home.

Home Schooling
Home-schooling has surged in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, as parents seek alternatives to traditional education. It can be extremely effective academically, with home-schooling pupils having a dedicated, personal teacher rather than sharing a teacher between 20 or 30 classmates. What can be achieved in a full day at school might only take a few hours in 1:1 lessons.
Ford Curran Tuition would be delighted to receive further enquiries from interested parents and pupils.
